Security web site (and web site defacement archive) attrition.org have introduced a data loss database anyone can use to track and analyze data breach incidents from around the world.

According to their announcement, the data is provided as a comma separated value (CSV) file that can be imported into most spreadsheets and databases. Attrition claims to have 300 incidents  from the past six years and promise to update the file at least every week.

Update (July 2008): The Data Loss Database is now being maintained by the Open Security Foundation at http://datalossdb.org/
